“People may doubt what you say, but they will always believe what you do.” ~ Author Unknown
While this quote has unknown origins, if you think about it, whoever said it was probably too busy letting their actions speak to make sure they got credit for the saying. There’s some deep wisdom in this statement.
The saying has a universal meaning, but definitely apply’s to the real estate industry, especially to the marketing and self-promotion side of real estate. There seems to be a tendency towards a lot of talk. Agents need to ask themselves honestly, are you making good on the words you put out to the world? When you say “client service is my highest priority,” do you demonstrate it by regularly keeping in touch? Do you truly market a home, or do you find yourself merely “listing” homes? Do you make passing promises in conversation which quickly fade when the conversation is over? We all fall short of our words from time to time. The important thing is to take a thorough, honest inventory of our behaviors and identify places where we could do a little less talking and a lot more doing.
Before you send out the next thousand postcards with your picture on it, why not pick up the phone and call five past clients to see how they’re doing? What deals did you have in the pipeline last year at this time? Try giving those folks a call and see how they are, ask for a referral and see what happens.
I will leave you with this thought.
Are you happy with your real estate brokerage? If you hesitated or if the answer is no, please give me a call. I would love to talk to you about your future. If you are thrilled with your brokerage office, congratulations and the best of luck in the future.
