I used to walk to work barefoot…..

by Dave Tipton on August 25, 2011

I remember when I first got my real estate license, way back when in 1985. Listen up all you kids, as a real estate agent in those days I had to walk to work barefoot in the snow, uphill, both ways.  A cup of coffee cost 5¢, a gallon of gas was 35¢… oh wait, wrong memory, sorry.  Anyway, way back in 1985 it was important that a real estate agent have prospects that wanted to either buy and or sell real estate.  Back then you needed to constantly be prospecting and looking for folks that met these criteria and that wanted to do business with you. Back then you needed to get your name out amongst the world as a person who had some knowledge and expertise and would be a good person to represent them.

Wait a minute, a lot has changed both in the world and in the real estate business since way back in 1985, but the basics are still the same.  How people shop for homes is different and how people decide on what real estate agent they want to use to help them consummate the deal is different, but people still want and need an agent with knowledge, expertise and someone they can feel comfortable with.

How did you prospect in 1985?  You called, sent letters, cards and newsletters to your sphere of influence and past customers, you also handed out tons of business cards. Also big in 1985 was print media and for sale signs in the ground.

Today, some of these things still work but what has changed the real estate world for ever as I see it, are these three major changes.

Internet- Websites, Blogging, Marketing

Technology- Technology isn’t just the internet. It’s computers, smart phones, cameras, video cameras, prospect/contact management software, intranets, global positioning systems, online mapping, printers, scanners and an ever widening array of hardware, software and applications.

Social networking- Provides online marketing of properties, schedule showings, photo and video sharing to enhance listings, showcase agents depth of knowledge local expertise and active involvement in the neighborhood he or she represents along with professional networking sites to hone their sales skills.

We at Florida’s Beautiful Homes have taken the best of the old and blended it with the new and devised a solid business and marketing plan for clients. We are also empowered and can communicate with our clients quickly and efficiently.
